Examples to follow!, a travelling exhibition on aesthetics and sustainability has been curated by journalist and member of the Berlin state senate, Adrienne Goehler. The finiteness of our energy reserves, the impending climate change, the shrinking of biodiversity have shown a need visions of a sustainable life that interconnect with sensuality, lust and passion that inspire individual action. In reaction to this sentiment, examples to follow! moves the cultural and aesthetic dimensions of sustainability into awareness of the senses, thus counteracting the visible erosion of the term. The expedition in aesthetics and sustainability demonstrates artistic practices that contribute to the preservation of the planet, intend to influence conscious consumer behaviour and be economically efficient; they also showcase artistic positions in which boundaries between art, activism and inventions dissolve and the experiences and methods of environmental initiatives interconnect with artistic approaches. In this aspect, the exhibition also adds Indian artists, whose work reflects such interconnects - Ravi Agarwal, MadhushreeDutta, Manish Nai and SharmilaSamant. The exhibition, which spreads over five galleries in Mumbai, aims at raising awareness for the fact that a constructive sustainability cannot make do without the arts and sciences as it needs to learn from them how to think in transitions, interim solutions, models and projects. The exhibition will also present technical innovations and material in the area of renewable energies, climate change, re/up?cycling and examples of sustainable management which will only help spur individual action.
