The uncanny afternoons of Sarnath Banerjee

Sidhi Kapoor, Mumbai Mirror, September 28, 2026

Sarnath Banerjee is on a flight when he explains the title of his new exhibition. “It’s about the unreliability of memory… Those things which you can fondly remember, and you know that, you remember the feeling, but you can’t recollect why you felt like that, that particular afternoon.” Badly Remembered Things, at Project 88 in Colaba from October 1 to 29, gives form to such memories: the feeling stays, while its cause has gone missing. It is the 54-year-old artist’s first solo show in seven years, though he has pursued that elusive quality in his work for much longer.
