India Art Fair 2012

Stand D 3, Hall 1 26-29 January 2012
Raqs Media Collective inhabits the Project 88 enclosure at the India Art Fair 2012 with four new sets of enigmas that make up a scenario - ´Interior, Day´, ´Its About Being Here and There at the Same Time´, ´The Namak Haram's Philosophy, Revised´ and ´A Different Gravity´

A Different Gravity, 2012 (Furniture, Words)
The bare bones of a scenario- could be a setting for a film that is perhaps forever or never being made. Thoughts are furnished with side effects. Words find surfaces to alight on. A Flying Carpet, a Time Table andthe Mirror Stage.

It´s About Being Here and There At the Same Time, 2012 (Figure in Three Metals)
Three metallic strips (brass, copper and steel) configure a possibility of being simultaneously inside and outside. Edges converse, lines travel across dimensions, definitions outdo each other.

The Namak Haram´s Philosophy, Revised, 2012 (Treated Photographic Diptych)
Every book demands another, but not all of them get written. Every debt demands to be paid, but not all are redeemed. Then there are the debts that we owe to the all that we read, which we can never really repay. In that sense we are all ´Namak-Harams´, defaulters to the debt of purloined knowledge. The Namak Haram´s Philosophy, Revised is a diptych featuring a paired bookshelf that holds books filled with the unwritten word - a fragment of a possible library of lost and not-yet-found books, the treasure-trove of a namak-haram and a bibliophile. What titles would one browse if one came across its stacks, folded into the course of a tiring day like a mirage in a desert? Can books be desired into existence by reciting the spells that are waiting to be read off the surfaces of their wished-for spines?

Interior, Day, 2012 (Four Looped Videos)
How different would things be if they were subject to another gravity? ´Interior,Day´ is a suite of four videos featuring mysterious activities in a world that weighs things differently than the one we think we know. Far outer space, asteroids, galaxies, horizons inhabited by other forms of life – all bathed in the endless illumination of interioriy.
