Willem’s brug Nassauplein 1, Amsterdam (Haarlemmerpoort) 2 September 2011 onwards
‘The Bridge is Open’, a public project by Monali Meher, is about raising/ opening bridges in Amsterdam. Only when the bridge is open can one experience the text based artwork on the raised part of the bridge, which acts a vertical canvas. The text used in the project has evolved from films and newspapers and Meher intends to use it such that it plays on people’s curiosity forcing them to reflect about the society they live in, while standing in front of an open bridge. This project is funded by AFK (Amsterdam fondsvoor de kunst) and Fonds BKVB, with special thanks to DIVV (DienstInfrastructuurVerkeer en Vervoer), Waternet, OrioTonini (Architect), Dock Westerpark, Watersportcentrum Westerpark, Stadsdeel West, Gemeente Amsterdam, Vertical Vision, SSP Amsterdam.
