The Road to Salvador do Mundo, a solo exhibition of new color photographs by Bharat Sikka, consists of a wide range of images, all shot in or near the small Goan village of the same name. The images span a wide range of genres: landscapes, portraits, interiors and still lifes. What links all of the photographs together is both a mood and a perspective. The photographer presents the atmosphere and the inhabitants of this hamlet as characters in an on-going drama, multiple narratives are suggested but never revealed, connections are implied but always cryptic. The colors of the photographs are richly seductive, communicating the lush vegetation of the tropics but also an elaborated psychological foreboding.
